Chandigarh,
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has written
to Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, requesting for
renaming of the Adampur Airport domestic terminal in honour of Sri Guru
Ravi Dass ji.
Captain
Amarinder has written to the central minister seeking his support in
the matter considering the sentiments of the Sikh community, which
highly revere Sri Guru Ravi Dass ji, the great mystic-poet and founder
of the Bhakti Movement.
The
chief minister took up the matter with the union minister after Member
of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary and several MLAs from Jalandhar
met him with a request to this effect here on Friday, according to an official spokesperson.
Chaudhary,
in a written communication to the chief minister, said there was a
popular demand from the predominant SC/ST population in Doaba region for
the renaming of the domestic terminal in memory of Sri Guru Ravi Dass
ji.
The
demand had been endorsed by former MPs and MLAs of all political
parties, both general and SC/ST categories, said Chaudhary, adding that
he had personally met the union civil aviation minister in this regard
and wanted the Punjab government to officially raise the demand with the
Centre.
Chaudhary expressed happiness at the fact that the Doaba region was all set to start domestic flights from 26th of September.
The realisation of the long-pending demand, he said, would be a boon to
the region, especially for NRIs, traders and industrialists and
pilgrims who come from around the world to visit the holy shrines in
neighbouring Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
