Responding
promptly to the demands raised by the Head Granthi and Manager of the historic
Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has
directed the Director Cultural Affairs and Tourism to submit a comprehensive
proposal for the development of a memorial in the Sub-Jail at Bassi Pathana,
where the Ninth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was kept in custody by the
then Mughal Emperor for more than three months.
The
Chief Minister, who convened a high-level meeting at his official residence
here within hours of returning from Fatehgarh Sahib yesterday, also accepted
various other demands raised by the Head Granthi Bhai Harpal Singh and Manager
Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib Jasbir Singh through a memorandum.
These
included strengthening and widening of roads within a 10-km radius of Gurdwara
Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, as well as beautification of the road from Baba Moti Ram
Mehra Gate (near Talanian) to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Gate, passing through
Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup. The Chief Minister also
directed the Secretary PWD to work out detailed proposals and estimates to
implement these projects at the earliest.
Captain
Amarinder has also cleared the sanction of Rs. 5 crore for the completion of
ongoing development works, including widening and strengthening of road from
historic Gurdwara Kuma Maski up to Ropar Headworks, besides construction of
four bridges over it in the Ropar district. The Chief Minister was apprised in
the meeting that funds to the tune of Rs.6.69 crore had been released so far
and the balance Rs.5 crore would be released soon so as to ensure timely
implementation of these development projects to facilitate the devotees.
Captain
Amarinder, who had visited the Gurdwara to pay his respects to Sri Guru Gobind
Singh ji’s younger Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, and his
mother Mata Gujri, directed the officials to undertake the beautification and
infrastructural development at Fatehgarh Sahib to facilitate the large number
of devotees visiting the gurdwara every day.
According
to an official spokesperson, the Chief Minister also gave approval for the
construction of 10 spacious bathrooms in the area adjoining Fatehgarh Sahib for
the large number of devotees who converge there during Shaheedi Sabha. He has
sought a detailed proposal for this from Secretary Public Health.
